I left a very rainy London on Friday morning only to arrive in a very overcast Los Angeles. I presumed it would disperse in a few hours, but no! I had somehow managed to bring the weather with me and I am now in my fourth day of rain in LA. Oh well, I can think of worse places to be working.
I attended Variety’s Film Marketing Summit yesterday. The goal of the event is to drive fresh insight and new viewpoints that have direct and immediate impact on movie marketing. The day started off with a keynote from Tom Rothman, CEO of Fox Entertainment. This was a real insight into the film industry and how the market has changed over the last ten years. Tom Rothman is one of the most experienced figures in the industry, so he obviously received the full attention of the audience. He discussed in depth the new obstacles facing the marketing of films. 10-15 years ago a film would be made, then a marketing strategy would be created afterwards.
