Thursday, February 24th, 2011 by Amy Maslin Comment (0) »

It’s almost that time of year again! Here at 99moves we get very excited about the Oscars. Well when I say ‘we’ I mean me, and when I say ‘very excited’ I mean hysterical. It’s not just the fact that over the past 80 years the Oscar’s has handed out accolades to some of the greatest filmmakers and actors of our time, it’s also because the women wear really pretty dresses. Dresses aside, here are a few of the winners we would like to see. Continue reading “83rd Annual Academy Awards – Our Oscar Predictions…” »

The King’s Speech Reigns at the BAFTAs 2011

Monday, February 14th, 2011 by Amy Maslin Comment (0) »

Didn’t The King’s Speech do well? Scooping a massive 7 awards out of a possible 14, it showed that when we put our mind to it, us Brits can take on the Americans. Although I have a feeling that the Oscars may produce a few different winners, there is no denying – last night was a night dedicated to British talent. Volkswagan – The Last Tango in Compton

Even though it was out at Christmas and didn’t include any jingling bells or emotive music, this is our first offering and by far the coolest advert of the festive season. Directed by Jonathon Glazer, the man behind the Guiness ‘Surfer’ ad, and starring two of the best tango dancers in the world, it is sure to be a winner.

Calling all Music Addicts…

everything

Uber Hip art rockers Everything Everything have given a little something back to those fans that couldn’t make it to their gig last week. With help from LoveLive productions, theirs was the first gig to be streamed live to iPads and iPhones via a free, specially designed app.

Yes, streaming gigs over the web has been done before but Everything Everything was different as it was shot in HD and delivered the highest quality sound, it might have actually been better than going to the gig, cheaper and less hipsters at least. Continue reading “Calling all Music Addicts…” »

popcornIn the office here, we have been talking about the pros and cons on an online film premier, not an online release but an online premiere. With news of Blockbuster hitting the rocks and success of video on demand services it’s clear that film distribution, reviews and marketing are all making the move online, shouldn’t the premiere be the next to follow suit? Ikea ‘Cats’

Mother London continually strikes gold with their Ikea adverts, creating memorable adverts that get people talking.  For this one they took over the Wembley branch of Ikea and released 100 cats in to the store. Jumping off stuff, having fights and getting their head stuck in things, these cats provided us with one of the most heart warming ads this season.

DVDs Should be for Life, Not Just for Christmas

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010 by Amy Maslin Comment (0) »

xmas dvdThis week The Guardian has reported on the massive downward shift in DVD sales over the past year. Experts have said that DVD and Blu-ray are set to be obsolete in 20years, and this week’s figures do little to dissuade us. With Blockbuster falling into bankruptcy it seems the traditional rent-a-DVD-order-a-pizza Saturday night is headed the same way as the mangle.

The Digital Entertainment Group have said sales and rentals of DVD’s have fallen by 7% this year, whilst the British Video Association says this is on top of the 5.6% fall from last year. Most surprisingly the biggest loss was in the new releases market which fell by 15% last year. Continue reading “DVDs Should be for Life, Not Just for Christmas” »
