99moves and Zeta Create the ‘The Storm’ in Support of Young British Filmmakers
Friday, April 1st, 2011 by Amy Maslin Comment (1) »Here at 99moves we feel strongly about the cuts issued to the Arts Council, and in particular the abolishment of the UK Film Council. The talent produced by the UK in all areas of culture, media and the arts is what keeps the industry we are in so exciting. Although, with this apparent lack of support from our government the fear up and coming talent won’t be granted the opportunity to flourish is, in our eyes, justified. 99moves Rounds Up the 83rd Academy Awards 2011 – What the Oscars Mean to British Filmmakers
Monday, February 28th, 2011 by Amy Maslin Comment (0) »With 16,000 tweets per minute the Oscars caused waves of attention across the web, amongst the sea of opinions and arguments, leading video SEO agency 99moves followed each step of the action from the red carpet dresses to each award. Last night’s results saw The King’s Speech take home three of the biggest awards, cementing it as the UK Film Council’s swansong.
The Academy Awards always bring disagreements and arguments amongst those within the movie industry and this year was no different. The category for Best Film was a highly contended one with the battle between Black Swan, The Social Network and The King’s Speech a close one to call. The award eventually went to The King’s Speech, which also picked up the Best Directing, Best Original Screenplay and Best Lead Actor awards. The success was especially poignant for all UK viewers as the film was partly funded by the UK Film Council, which is soon to be abolished. The King’s Speech Reigns at the BAFTAs 2011

Didn’t The King’s Speech do well? Scooping a massive 7 awards out of a possible 14, it showed that when we put our mind to it, us Brits can take on the Americans. Although I have a feeling that the Oscars may produce a few different winners, there is no denying – last night was a night dedicated to British talent. So, the directors at 99moves set me a challenge: to produce a short film about the UK Film Council in two weeks with a budget of £300. For those of you who haven’t had that much interaction with the film world, I can tell you now that isn’t a lot of time and isn’t a lot of money. Never one to shy away from a challenge, I signed myself up and got to work. Continue reading “The Storm’s A-coming” »

That’s a Wrap!
Thursday, September 30th, 2010 by Amy Maslin Comment (0) »
So the UK Film Council (UKFC) has been wrapped and told to strike down the set, leaving the British film industry with a large Keira Knightly shaped hole in it. The council’s small but sometimes effective budget helped, but was by no means responsible for many great films since its establishment 10 years ago. It has also invested millions of pounds into schemes and initiatives around the country, helping to raise the profile of British films and inspire a new generation of film-makers.
